What is the Stone Forest?

It is a 400-square-km UNESCO geopark of limestone pillars formed from an ancient sea floor 270 million years ago. The main area looks like a grey stone maze — fantastic for photos and easy walking.

How long do we need there?

Allow 3-4 hours to walk the main and minor forest areas. The site is large; electric carts inside save your legs.

Is it suitable for children and seniors?

Yes — the main paths are paved and flat, with electric carts. It is exposed and sunny, so bring a hat and water.

How much does it cost?

Full-day private car starts from $130 for a sedan (1-3), $170 for a GL8 (4-6), $250 for a V-Class (7-8). Entrance is paid on site (~$40).

Can I combine it with Dali or Lijiang?

The Stone Forest is east of Kunming; Dali and Lijiang are west. Most people visit the Stone Forest as a day from Kunming, then head west separately.
