Terracotta Warriors + Huashan in One Day
Combine two of Xi'an's most iconic experiences in a single private-car day trip. Start at the Terracotta Warriors — the UNESCO World Heritage army that has guarded Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum for more than 2,200 years — then drive east to Mount Huashan, one of China's Five Great Sacred Mountains, famous for its sheer granite ridges, cliff-side paths and sweeping summit views. Your professional driver handles all driving, parking, tolls and navigation, and waits at every stop while you explore at your own pace.
This is a long, rewarding day designed for reasonably fit travelers. We leave Xi'an early, spend the morning underground with the emperor's army, break for lunch, then ride the cable car up Huashan in the afternoon. If you would rather take it slower, jump to our Pure Terracotta Warriors tour below — the same museum, without the mountain.
Suggested Day-by-Time Itinerary
Meet your driver in your hotel lobby. We can also collect you from Xi'an North Station or Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY).
About 40 km east of Xi'an, roughly a 1-hour drive on the expressway.
Explore Pit 1 (the main hall), Pit 2 and Pit 3 at your own pace. Arrive early to beat the biggest tour groups.
Sit down for local Shaanxi noodles or a set meal at a recommended restaurant. Meals are at your own cost.
About 80 km from the museum to the Huashan visitor center, roughly 1–1.5 hours.
A cable car runs up the mountain; from the upper station you can walk the cliffside trails and viewpoint platforms. You decide how far to go — there is no rush and your driver waits.
About a 2-hour drive, arriving back at your hotel or dinner stop around 20:30.
Fit required: Expect an 11–13 hour day with a fair amount of walking. Huashan has steps and steep ridges; the cable car removes the vertical climb but the summit trails are not flat. If you want the full cliff-side plank walk or sunrise, we recommend splitting this into a 2-day trip with an overnight at the mountain — just ask.

Pure Terracotta Warriors Tour (Half-Day or Full-Day)
If the long Huashan day is not for you, our private car to the Terracotta Warriors is Xi'an's essential half-day or full-day outing. It is about a 1-hour drive east from central Xi'an, and your driver waits at the museum while you explore. Choose the half-day package for Pits 1–3 and the museum hall only, or the full-day package to add Lishan Garden (the Qin Shi Huang mausoleum precinct) and an optional stop back in the city.
What You'll See at the Museum
- Pit 1 — the main hall. This is the largest and most dramatic pit, where ranks of life-sized warriors and horses stretch out in long formation. It is the view that made the site world-famous and is the first stop for most visitors.
- Pit 2 — the armored formation. A smaller, still-being-excavated pit holding a more varied layout of infantry, archers and chariots. Restoration work is often visible here.
- Pit 3 — the command center. The smallest pit, interpreted by archaeologists as the headquarters or command post of the underground army, with fewer but more carefully arranged figures.
- Bronze Chariots & Lishan Garden. The museum also displays recovered bronze chariots. A short internal shuttle connects the pits to Lishan Garden, the earthen-mound precinct of Qin Shi Huang's own mausoleum, which has not yet been fully excavated — included on our full-day option.
Half-Day vs Full-Day
| Option | What's Included | Approx. Time |
|---|---|---|
| Half-Day | Round-trip car + driver; Pits 1, 2 & 3 and the museum hall only | ~5–6 hours door to door |
| Full-Day | Everything in the half-day, plus Lishan Garden / mausoleum precinct and an optional city stop (e.g. Big Wild Goose Pagoda or Muslim Quarter) on the way back | ~8–9 hours door to door |
Tickets: entry to the Terracotta Warriors museum is a combined-area ticket covering the pits and Lishan Garden. Ticket prices change seasonally, so please check official ticketing for current prices — tickets are purchased by you on site and are not included in the car rate.
Private Car Prices
Fixed, all-in prices in USD for the vehicle and driver for the whole day. Each rate already includes our service margin on top of the operating cost — there are no hidden surcharges. Your rate covers the private car, professional driver, fuel, tolls, parking and hotel pickup/drop-off in Xi'an. Tickets and Huashan cable cars are not included. Overtime beyond the scheduled day is around $15/hour.
| Vehicle | Seats | Pure Terracotta Half-Day | Terracotta Full-Day | Terracotta + Huashan Full-Day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VW Lavida / Passat (sedan) | 4 | $130 | $155 | $185 |
| Audi A6L (luxury sedan) | 4 | $185 | $210 | $240 |
| Buick GL8 (MPV) | 6 | $185 | $210 | $240 |

Practical Tips & Best Time to Go
- Best months. Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) offer the most comfortable weather for both the museum and the mountain. Summer can be hot and crowded; winter is quiet but cold on Huashan.
- Beat the crowds. Arriving at the Terracotta Warriors by 09:30 means Pit 1 is far less crowded than by late morning. On weekends and Chinese holidays the site gets very busy, so an earlier start helps.
- What to bring. Comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket for the mountain (it is cooler at the summit), sun protection and a bottle of water. Bring your passport - it is sometimes checked for entry.
- Private car vs group tour. Group buses run fixed schedules and carry 30+ people; with a private car you skip the bus-station queue, set your own timing, and your driver waits at each stop. It is especially worth it on the combined Terracotta + Huashan day, where public transfers between the two sites are awkward.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we really do the Terracotta Warriors and Huashan in one day?
Yes, for the highlights. It is a long day — around 11–13 hours — because the warriors are about 1 hour east of Xi'an and Huashan is another 1–1.5 hours beyond them. You spend the morning at the warriors, have lunch, then take the cable car up Huashan in the afternoon. If you want the full cliff-side plank walk or sunrise on Huashan, we recommend a 2-day overnight instead.
Is Huashan difficult or tiring?
The cable car removes the big vertical climb, so most reasonably fit travelers can enjoy the summit viewpoints. The trails still involve steps and some exposed ridge paths, so they are not flat and are not recommended for travelers with serious mobility issues. You choose how far to walk — you can simply ride the cable car up, take in the views and come back down.
Are entrance tickets and the cable car included in the price?
No. The price you see is for the private car, driver, fuel and tolls only. You buy the Terracotta Warriors combined ticket and the Huashan entrance + cable car tickets on site. This keeps our rate transparent and avoids marking up tickets — check official ticketing for current prices.
What time do we need to leave Xi'an?
For the combined Terracotta + Huashan day we recommend an early start, around 07:30, so you can beat the crowds at the warriors and still have several hours on the mountain. For a pure Terracotta half-day, an 08:30–09:00 pickup is usually fine.
How much time do we need at the Terracotta Warriors?
Plan for about 2.5–3 hours for Pits 1, 2 and 3 and the museum hall. If you also visit Lishan Garden on the full-day option, add another 1.5–2 hours.
Do you pick up from the airport or train station on a layover?
Yes. We collect from Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY), Xi'an North Station, or any hotel in central Xi'an. A layover-only Terracotta run can be timed to your flight.
Does the driver speak English?
All drivers are professional and licensed. On-the-ground English support is available via WhatsApp, WeChat or phone during the trip, and an English-speaking driver can be requested in advance. The driver is not a tour guide, but he knows the site and the best drop-off points.
What is the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup, 50% refund up to 24 hours before, and 20% refund up to 12 hours before. Same-day cancellations are non-refundable. A 50% deposit is required to reserve.
